Instructions

  3. Set the requested length and choose single-line or multi-line mode.
  4. Enable reverse only when each extracted value must be reversed.

Limits

  • substring Extractor: Positions use one-based indexing in the form.
  • substring Extractor: A slice beyond the input ends at the available text.
  • substring Extractor: The operation runs in the browser and does not need a network service.

Questions

Does substring position start at zero or one?

It starts at one. Position 1 selects the first character, and the length specifies how much text to extract.

What happens when the substring extends beyond the input?

The tool returns the available text up to the end. If the start position lies beyond the input, it returns an empty string.

Can I extract the same position from every line?

Enable separate-line processing. Each line then uses its own start position and length rather than counting across the entire input.
