Limits

  • Find and Replace Text: Replacement can change every matching occurrence, not only the first.
  • Find and Replace Text: The operation cannot infer whether a match is semantically intended.
  • Find and Replace Text: The operation runs in the browser and does not need a network service.

Questions

How do I replace literal text instead of a regular expression?

Choose Text as the search mode and enter the text to find. Use regular-expression mode only when you need pattern syntax.

Can I delete matched text with the replacer?

Yes. Leave replacement text empty to remove matches. Review the resulting boundaries because removal can join previously separate words.

Why does a regex search match more text than expected?

Regex characters such as dots and quantifiers have special meaning. Test a small sample and escape characters that should match literally.
