Questions

How do I prepare bytes for COBS framing?

Supply the byte payload to the COBS encoder. The operation applies the COBS representation to that payload. Check the surrounding protocol separately for its packet delimiter and any headers or checksums.

Does COBS encoding add a checksum?

This operation applies byte stuffing, not an integrity checksum. A receiver can still need a separate checksum or other integrity field. Follow the packet specification rather than treating successful decoding as proof against corruption.

Can I encode displayed hex text directly as COBS?

Only when you intend to encode those text characters. If the hex describes binary bytes, convert it to bytes first. Otherwise the COBS payload contains the hexadecimal digits instead of the intended binary values.
