Mean Calculator
Calculate the arithmetic mean of decimal numbers. Separate values with commas, spaces, semicolons, or new lines.
This tool runs open-source code from CyberChef by GCHQ (Apache License 2.0). See open-source credits.
The arithmetic mean divides the sum by the number of observations. Each observation has equal weight.
The result contains the mean, without a spread measure.
- Average test scores, response times, or daily readings that all carry equal weight.
Average five scores
Input: 72 85 90 64 89
Settings: Commas, spaces, semicolons, or new lines separate numbers.
Result: 80
The sum is 400 and the count is 5, so the mean is 400 / 5 = 80. The calculator also reports the count and sum.
Choose a delimiter and interpret NaN
- Paste the observations and select their Delimiter.
- Remove currency signs, units, and thousands separators.
- Check the result against the smallest and largest observations.
- Unreadable entries can be skipped silently.
- An empty parsed list returns NaN.
- Use a weighted calculation when observations have different weights.
