Convert simple CSV or semicolon-separated rows to tab-separated text in your browser. Removes comment and blank lines. Quoted separators still split.

This tool runs open-source code from OmniTools (MIT License). See open-source credits.

CSV to TSV Converter splits each line at the column separator and joins the pieces with tab characters. Then it strips one pair of surrounding quotes from each piece. It does not parse CSV quoting first. So a quoted comma, as in "Doe, Jane", becomes a tab and splits that field.

The output uses a real tab character between fields and keeps your line breaks. Spaces after commas stay in the next field.

  • Convert unquoted exports, such as numeric logs, for a tab-delimited import.
  • Change semicolon-separated rows to tabs by setting Column separator to ;.
  • Strip # comment lines and blank lines while changing the separator.

Instructions

  1. Paste the data into CSV input. Rows name, score and Ada,9 need no settings change.
  2. Set Column separator to the character your data uses, such as ; for semicolon CSV.
  3. Lines that start with Comment prefix (default #) become empty. Remove empty lines, on by default, then deletes them.
  4. Turn off Keep the header row to drop the first line. It drops the first physical line, whatever it contains.
  5. Search the input for quoted fields before converting. Any quoted field that contains the separator will split.

Example

Input: # export 2026-11-04 item;qty pen;2 ink;1

Settings: Column separator: ;, Comment prefix: #, Remove empty lines: on

Result: item qty pen 2 ink 1

The # comment line and the blank line disappear. A quoted field that contains ; would split at that semicolon.

Limits

  • Quoted fields that span lines break apart, because the tool splits at every line break.
  • Tabs already inside a cell create extra columns. The tool does not escape or replace them.
  • Doubled quotes inside a quoted cell stay doubled, so "say ""hi""" becomes say ""hi"".
  • For quoted CSV, use CSV Separator Changer and paste a real tab into its Output separator.
