Questions

How do I decode binary-coded decimal?

Select the BCD Scheme, Packed setting, and Input format used by the source. Nibbles and Bytes read binary digits, while Raw reads byte data. The result is a decimal number rather than decoded prose.

What is the difference between packed and unpacked BCD?

Packed BCD stores decimal digits in adjacent nibbles. The unpacked setting discards each high nibble before reading digits. Match the source representation because the wrong setting changes which digit patterns the decoder reads.

Why does BCD decoding reject a nibble?

Not every four-bit pattern represents a digit in every BCD scheme. Select the correct weighting scheme and sign setting. An invalid pattern can also indicate ordinary binary data rather than BCD.
