Bacon Cipher Encoder
Encode letters as five-symbol Bacon cipher groups. Select the alphabet and translation used by your classroom exercise or puzzle.
This tool runs open-source code from CyberChef by GCHQ (Apache License 2.0). See open-source credits.
The cipher represents letters with two symbols. Translation selects A/B or 0/1; Invert Translation swaps them.
Keep extra characters retains spaces and punctuation. Otherwise, the output separates letter groups with spaces.
- Hide a message in ordinary text. Set the letters for A in one typeface and the letters for B in another.
Encode HELLO in five-symbol groups
Input: HELLO
Settings: Alphabet Standard (I=J and U=V), Translation A/B, Keep extra characters off, and Invert Translation off.
Result: AABBB AABAA ABABA ABABA ABBAB
The first group represents H. The repeated L produces the same group twice.
Choose an alphabet and preserve extra characters
- Enter the message in Input.
- Choose Alphabet and Translation.
- Set Keep extra characters and Invert Translation to match the receiver.
- Standard merges I with J and U with V. Use Complete when each letter needs its own code.
- Digits and non-Latin letters have no code.
- The visible two-symbol representation does not protect a secret.
