Random Number Generator and Picker
Generate random numbers within a selected range.
This tool runs open-source code from OmniTools (MIT License). See open-source credits.
Random Number Generator and Picker: Choose a Minimum, Maximum, and Number count to generate random numbers in your browser. Turn off Allow duplicate values for a draw without repeats. This tool needs no source text.
The result contains Number count values joined with your Separator. Decimal results display two decimal places. Copy result and Save result keep the displayed text.
- Choose numbered classroom exercises without repeats.
- Create bounded sample values for software tests.
- Generate a random order for a small numbered list by disabling duplicates and leaving sorting off.
Instructions
- Set Minimum and Maximum. Maximum must exceed Minimum. Set Number count to a whole number from 1 through 10,000.
- Enable Allow decimal values for two decimal places. Otherwise, the tool selects whole numbers within your bounds.
- Turn off Allow duplicate values for unique results. Number count cannot exceed the available values in your range.
- Enable Sort results for ascending order. Set Separator to the text you want between numbers, then select Generate numbers.
- For a complete no-repeat example, set Minimum to 1, Maximum to 4, and Number count to 4. Disable decimals and duplicates, enable sorting, and keep the default separator. The result is 1, 2, 3, 4.
Example
Input: Minimum 1; Maximum 4; Number count 4
Settings: Allow decimal values off; Allow duplicate values off; Sort results on; Separator kept at its default comma and space
Result: 1, 2, 3, 4
Number count 5 fails with these settings. The range holds only four whole numbers without duplicates.
Limits
- The tool uses Web Crypto with rejection sampling to avoid biased range mapping. It does not generate passwords, encryption keys, or security tokens.
- The difference between Maximum and Minimum cannot exceed 1,000,000. Each run supports up to 10,000 values.
- Decimal mode selects hundredth-sized values within your bounds. It does not support arbitrary precision.
- A range must contain at least one whole number or hundredth-sized value, depending on the selected mode.
- Sorting changes the display order. Leave Sort results off when the draw order matters.
