Generate a symmetric GOST message-authentication code with a shared secret. This operation does not create a public-key signature.

This tool runs open-source code from CyberChef by GCHQ (Apache License 2.0). See open-source credits.

GOST MAC Generator uses symmetric GOST message-authentication code generation to process the supplied input. It produces a symmetric message-authentication code using the selected block-cipher variant, not an asymmetric digital signature.

It produces a symmetric message-authentication code using the selected block-cipher variant, not an asymmetric digital signature. Processing runs in the browser for this catalog category, so the result depends on the supplied bytes and settings. Processing runs in the browser.

This MAC checks integrity between shared-key holders; it does not provide confidentiality or public-key non-repudiation.

Instructions

  1. Provide text or data for this tool.
  2. Record Algorithm, sBox, IV, and MAC length beside the generated tag. This applies to GOST MAC Generator.
  3. Pass the tag and original message to GOST Verify with the same secret key. This applies to GOST MAC Generator.

Example

Input: Use Raw message "abc" with a disposable key, GOST 28147 (1989), sBox E-TEST, and MAC length 32.

Settings: GOST MAC Generator: Key and IV use the selected byte encodings. MAC length controls the tag length; Output type selects Hex or Raw.

Result: It produces a symmetric message-authentication code using the selected block-cipher variant, not an asymmetric digital signature. Processing runs in the browser for this catalog category, so the result depends on the supplied bytes and settings.

Limits

  • GOST MAC Generator: Anyone who holds the shared key can generate a matching MAC.
  • GOST MAC Generator: The Sign name does not mean this operation uses a public/private signing key pair.
