Byte Unit Converter
Convert values between digital data units.
This tool runs open-source code from OmniTools (MIT License). See open-source credits.
Byte Unit Converter changes storage quantities between bits, bytes, decimal units, and binary units. One KB equals 1000 B, while one KiB equals 1024 B. A lowercase b means bits; uppercase B means bytes.
The result contains one converted value per input line. Blank lines remain blank; rounding follows Decimal places.
- Compare a storage specification expressed in GB with a value expressed in GiB.
- Convert a file-size limit into bytes before checking a file.
- Distinguish a bit quantity from a byte quantity.
Instructions
- Enter one storage value per line.
- Select From unit, To unit, and Decimal places. For example, enter 1, select KiB to B, and use 0 decimal places.
- Read the converted values in the same line order. The example returns 1024.
Example
Input: 1
Settings: From unit GB; To unit GiB; Decimal places 2
Result: 0.93
Binary units use powers of 1024. From unit GiB and To unit MiB turn 1 into exactly 1024.
Limits
- Decimal and binary prefixes use different multipliers. Select the unit actually used by the source.
- Decimal places controls rounding. The output removes unnecessary trailing zeros.
- The calculation uses browser numbers, so very large integers can lose precision. It does not calculate network transfer time.
